The Flock
Spanning a width of over 300’ on the side of the Atmosphere luxury apartments, we painted 14 flamingos that rise over 22’ high.
Our Work Station
I order to work on this project off site, we were able to utilize some space at Dane Manufacturing in Waunakee, WI. This allowed us to create a 50’ easel to prop up individual panels, and also allowed us the space we needed to maneuver the 168 aluminum panels that we received.
Design Production
In order to ensure that we knew exactly where to paint and that the painting was 100% accurate, digital design files were created for each and every panel. With the artwork laid out on life-size digital mockups, we were able to create vinyl patters to paint the flamingos as accurately as possible.
Workflow
Once we dialed in our production process, we were able to have multiple sections of the panels being painted simultaneously. While some panels were on the easel being painted, we were also able to prepare the next set of panels for painting. This included creating and installing vinyl masks, sanding the areas that will receive paint, and cleaning the surface with a degreaser. Once the panels on the easel were dry and complete, they were stored in piles and the process starts all over again.
