LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR
Our ‘Love Your Neighbor’ mural was painted to welcome visitors to Middleton, Wisconsin - the Good Neighbor City. The mural was a joint project between the Middleton Arts Committee, the Downtown Middleton Business Association, the Community Development Authority, and Candle Holder, LLC, greeting thousands of people every day, as they commute in and out of the city. Working with the brick red siding of The Roman Candle, the bold lettering was inspired by some vintage type, and peppered with a few stars and punches of color to bring a little pizzazz to the final composition.
We made detailed measurements of each letter so we could draft the design onto the wall utilizing only a level and measuring tape. This visual acted as our map as we transferred the design onto the wall.
A line of tape designates the base of each letter to keep everything in line.
Next we taped off the straight lines of the letters to make the painting a bit easier.
The ridges of the siding meant we had to carefully paint under each corner.
Some sections needed to be manually drafted.
