FLAMINGO SWIRLS

‘Flamingo Swirls’ is another collaboration between OhYa Studio and Triangulador. Located on the side of the Johnson Street Laundromat in Madison, Wisconsin, this mural combines Liu’s doodle aesthetic with a flamboyance of pink, plastic flamingos, Madison’s city bird. A special thanks to Madison Public Art Project for funding the materials and supplies for this wall.

We started out by spray painting random doodle icons all over the wall.

Next we digitally imposed the mural design over a photo of the doodle wall. This "doodle grid" would give us many points of reference so we could manually enlarge the design onto the wall.

Notice the appearance of the large flamingo heads.

Once the design was placed, we could start painting!

It was fun to see bits of the underlying doodle grid peek through the unpainted areas.

Liu stretches to paint one of his ribbons up and over the wall.

Adding the sponge texture and juicy highlights.
